Summer Squash, Tatume

Tatume squash is an heirloom pepo summer squash originally from Northern Mexico that is becoming more common in the US for its ability to withstand drought and some common cucurbit diseases. We identified Tatume as a pepo squash with high resistance to Plectosporium Blight and good resistance to Downy Mildew in a large, duplicated trial in the summer of 2023, funded by a SARE grant. Tatume plants are vining, with vines up to 10’. Plants thrive even in high heat, drought, and under heavy disease pressure. Tatume squash are round-oblate with medium-green skin and darker green striping. They are best harvested about baseball size. Squash have firm, white, very flavorful flesh. 50 days from DS
