Yucatan Watermelon (as we call it) is a large, cultivated watermelon from Xocchel, Yucatan, Veracruz collected by the USDA in 1979 that we found through the USDA-ARS GRIN network as WC 2135 (PI 438671). Yucatan watermelons are large (18-22 lb.), disease-resistant watermelons with green snake-striped rinds and sweet, dark pink flesh with large, dark brown seeds. This variety has demonstrated resistance to Alternaria, Anthracnose, Downy Mildew, and Gummy Stem Blight. Fruits have large hearts and are not seedy. Brix averages 11-11.5. People regularly tell us that this is the best watermelon that they have ever eaten! Great keeper! Highly recommended! 90 days from DS
